MANILA, Philippines: University of Santo Tomas averted a collapse with a 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25, 15-12 conquest of defending champ La Salle in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, February 25.
Jonna Perdido dropped a career-best 24 points to lead the now league-leading and 3-0 Golden Tigresses, who won the first two sets but lost the next two and found themselves down, 9-12, in the fifth.
But just as it appeared that the Lady Spikers would complete a reverse sweep, the Golden Tigresses found their second wind and racked up six straight points capped by a Margaret Banagua placement to win the match.
Angge Poyos chipped in 22 points while Banagua added 11.
Reigning MVP Angel Cansino spearheaded La Salle’s comeback attempt with a career-high tying 28 markers.
The Lady Spikers fell to 2-1.
